Antics in the Attic

One of the pleasures of working on such a special building which has evolved so interestingly over such a long time, is that its subtler details tend to be revealed, or noticed, gradually: the carpenter’s assembly marks on exposed beams; the striking, well-preserved 200-year-old wallpaper, semi-hidden beneath a narrow second-floor staircase; and the signatures left behind by those working inside the roof in the early 20th century, such as those shown below.
